With a dynamic, entrepreneurial approach, Josh and the Albatross team tackle challenges head-on, keeping clients supported and deals moving forward, no matter the market.

We caught up with Josh to talk more about his role and learn about how he is on hand throughout your deal.

Tell us a bit about your role at Albatross and how you support clients in the lending process.

My job covers every part of a deal – from the first chat to the final repayment. I like to jump in early, working with our sales team to shape solutions that we know we can deliver on. By staying involved throughout, I can spot ways to manage risk without making things more complicated for the client. We’re always looking for smarter ways to do things, balancing the need to grow our business with making deals that work for everyone.

What are some common concerns and issues clients face?

We see all kinds of challenges; bad credit, complex properties, overseas borrowers – you name it. No two deals are the same, which is why we have to be flexible and creative. We don’t do cookie-cutter solutions. We find what works for each client individually, especially where others might shy away.

The credit climate is challenging. How is Albatross helping clients navigate this?

I wouldn’t necessarily call it a ‘tough’ climate – it’s just different from the low-rate period we got used to. Economic shifts are part of the landscape. We keep supporting clients as we always have, navigating each unique situation without getting thrown off by the headlines. It’s about staying focused and keeping things business-as-usual, regardless of what’s happening around us.

What steps should businesses take to identify and monitor risks?

Every business is different, so it’s not about a one-size-fits-all plan. The key is thinking about the “what ifs” and having a realistic backup plan. Entrepreneurs tend to be optimistic, which is great, but it’s also wise to have a way forward if things don’t go as planned. A bit of forethought can make a huge difference if the unexpected happens.

How does Albatross support clients through these potential challenges?

Our goal is to buy clients the time they need to make their plans happen. We don’t just hand over funds and walk away. If clients have a solid strategy, we give them the space to execute it, working closely to provide the support they need to stay on track.

Finally, what do you enjoy most about your role and the culture at Albatross?

For me, it’s all about logical and pragmatic underwriting. I’m not here to check boxes; I’m here to get deals done. Albatross gives me the freedom to think through situations and find real solutions, which is what I love. Plus, it’s motivating to work with a team that is just as enthusiastic about pushing the business forward.
